Rename a Registered server-How?

Hi,
How to rename a Registered server running on the server?
I do not want to create another instance nor unregister the exsisting one.
The existing one is in the name of "Local" and not able to implement the
replication,a default rule set for implementing Replication...
Let me know how should i go about it.

You have to unregister and register it with the common name, that is also
accessible from the network (MachineName\instance or MachineName if its the
default instance rather than "." or "local")
