renaming drive letter
server(cluster installation).
My plan is to
1. stop sql related services.
2. copy sql db files to new drive...
3. Rename new drive with existing drive letter.
4. start sql.
My question is - will the change of drive letter work normally for cluster
installations or do i need to take any special care?If the drive letter is the same, the original files and directories are put
back, and the account running SQL Server has permissions to the files then
SQL won't detect any difference and be fine. However,
the cluster service may be a different story.

Changing a drive letter in a cluster becomes a lot more complicated as the
cluster services depend on it.
You have to between steps 2 and 3, remove the dependency in cluster manager,
then re-name the letter, establish the dependencies in cluster manager and
then start SQL Server.
It is best to take SQL Server and Agent offline, and then reboot each node
to make sure the groups and resources fail over correctly. Then bring SQL
Server online again.

Renaming Analysis DB
Hi
Is it possible to rename an analysis db on analysis services 2000?
Thanks in advance
Thomas
It's been a while since I've messed with 2000, but I do not believe you can change the name. Take a look at the DSO object library to see the the database name can be changed there. If not, then I think you're out of luck.
One solution is to open the AS manager, right-click the database, select copy then paste, and provide a new name. You'll need to reprocess (and possibly remove the old database), but this is how we used to handle this problem.
Good luck,
Bryan
Hi Brian
This works for me. Thank you very much.

Renamed RS Server; unable to access site
Please provide any information that will resolve this problem. Thanks in advance,
KevinIn your Report Manager directory, look for a RSWebApplication.config file. Open that baby up and look for something like:
<ReportServerUrl>http://Youroldservername/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
You might spot your old server name there. I've been playing with that file today, which sparked the idea. Not a clue if it works or not!
Hope it helps!

Rename SQL Bit in Reporting services
Hello,
What is the best way to rename a bit "True/False" to "Open/Closed" or "yes/no" in the expression editior.
Thanks
B
What a simple answer...
=iif(Fields!Fieldname.Value = 0 , "No" , "Yes")
I think sql somehow translates the 0 to a false...

rename instance possible?
is a rename of a instance possible?
In the registry I found this service:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQL$WIEN
mit
Display Name REG_SZ SQL Server (WIEN)
ImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.3\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe" -sWIEN
In Enum, Linkage, Performance I found "WIEN" to.
Is the name "WIEN" burnt in in the database too? Or can I rename the entires "WIEN" only in the service (and restart the service) and the instance had a new name?
Well, officially not, you will have to do a reinstallation. You might try this here, but i guess this i not supported nor recommended.

Definitely not supported.

Rename an AS Database?
the Analysis Manager interface?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, No. You need to do a copy and then a paste. When the paste
runs, it notices that you already have a database with that name and will
prompt for a new name. You enter a new name; then reprocess the database (an
option on the right-click menu). Then you can go back and delete the old
database.

removing system administrators from fixed server role
Hello all,
On Analysis Services 2005 the members of the Administrators local group are also members of the fixed server role, therefore they have full control over Analysis Services databases.
I think this can be a problem becouse many system administrators don't need full control over AS. Does someone kwon how can I remove those high privileges to the local administrator?
Thank you.
Hernan.
In Management Studio right click on the server, select properties, turn on the "Show Advanced (All) Properties" option and scroll down to the bottom and set the "Security\BuiltInAdminsAreServerAdmins" property to false.|||Thank you Darren, your post is very usefull.

Removing Rich Text formatting from a field
I had a similiar problem and found this link helpful:
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/042501-1.shtml
I just took the function provided in the above link and placed it in the Code section of my report. It may need some tweaking depending on your specific needs but hopefully it will help.
|||place this code in your Code section:
function StripRTF(ByVal rtf as String) as String
rtb.Rtf = rtf
return rtb.Text
end function
Add a reference to the System.Windows.Forms namespace and create a class instance of System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox with an instance name of rtb
|||Hi,
Code Snippet
function StripRTF(ByVal rtf as String) as Stringrtb.Rtf = rtf
return rtb.Text
end function
I've similar problem and the above function works in Report Designer. However, when it is deployed in ReportServer, it didn't work at all.
Is there something we need to do in the Report Server?
For your info, both Report Designer and Report Server sits in different machine.
Please help.

Kamal
|||I am having the same issue. The code works fine in report designer, but out on the report server I get "#Error" in place of what is supposed to be the parsed text.Ideas?
Thanks in advance

Removing quotations from cvs export in SSRS
I am trying to export a report from sql server reporting services in a csv format, but I do not want the text qualified with quotations. Is there any way to do this?
You should be able to do that with a filter. See this blog entry for a similar (although not exact) match to what you're trying to do:

removing logs
Reporting Services\LogFiles folder that are 33MB each. This is a development
machine. How do I get rid of them? Can I just delete them?
Thanks,
--
Dan D.You can delete, it creates again, but I dont think you require this much log
files for your development server. For production yes you need to have a
backup. Before deleting keep a backup or Zip all the log files and keep it in
a seperate place.
If it is so important, you can run a program which is available in the
samples to read the log files and reporting.
and ofcourse schedule it to remove. default it keeps it for 60 days.

small, under 50K. I don't know what was in the files that were so large.
I removed them.
Thanks,
