Renaming Cluster Nodes

Realise it is a common question and have searched through the group:
I have a Windows 2003 R2 cluster (with SQL 2000 SP4) which needs to be
renamed (Nodes, cluster name)
Is there any way to bypass re-installing SQL 2000 after this has been
completed?
(Various non microsoft sites point towards using sp_dropserver and
sp_addserver or updating the syservers table)

why you need rename nodes?
you can change virtual server name but microsoft not recommend this.
do NOT update system tables manually.
if you rename sql server (sp_dropserver and sp_addserver), cluster will not
check sql status and servis will be mark as failure.
best solution: install new sql

Well, I would start with going back to basics and doing a risk assessment
associated with the change and mitigation strategies. Risk, everything
possible going wrong. Mitigating that risk: Don't make the change as it is
completely unnecessary.

Rename a cluster.. is it possible

We have a single instance cluster on 2 nodes say SQL1. We want to do a
side-by-side upgrade of the underlying hardware and we have another cluster
with 2 nodes already ready and its called SQL2. At the time of cutover, we
want to just rename SQL1 to SQLOld and SQL2 back to SQL1 so that our
applications can connect to SQL1 without having to go through any connection
name changes.
Can it be done ? We've done many of these on standalone SQL instances by
renaming servers.. Wasnt too sure how it works on a cluster. Especially
since we are not dependent on the node names and the applications just
connect to the Virtual SQL instance, I was not too sure how to go about the
same.

Also in SQL 2005, is it the same or is it better to do this easily ?
Why not just create a DNS alias and use that?

Removing White Space

I have created a report with a drill down button for each unique record. However, when the nodes are not expanded (the default), the report displays with large amounts of white space (varying according to how much space is required once the node is fully expanded). Is there any way to remove this whitespace? Thanks in advance.

I've seen this before where I explicitly set the group header for the inner group to be invisible, but i accidentally left the footer visible. Got the exact same symptom.

I tried this but unfortunately it didn't work - all my group headings are set to invisible... (when i initially load the report, I only view the resource names, no other information - indicating that they are set to invisible)

|||You need to make sure you are hiding the groups, not the individual rows inside the group. Edit the group properties and set the visibility there.

Removing Nodes from a Virtual Server?

I've build a SQL 2000 SP3a cluster on top of an 8 node Windows 2003 cluster.
We've decided to split the cluster up into 2 individual clusters and as such
I'm attempting to remove some of the cluster nodes from the Virtual Server
Definiton (as per the "Adding or Removing a Cluster Node from the Vritual
Server Definition" of
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...clus.mspx#EGAA)
Anyway, I begin the SQL install and get to the Computer Name dialog where I
choose the virtual server name. I click next and the install GUI just
disapears. I check and setupsql.exe is continues to show up as running in
Taskman for about 10 minutes then just finishes up.
Any thoughts?

Only 4 Nodes are supported on a cluster by SQL Server 2000. It is a setup UI
limitation.
You need to remove the installation like you installed it, with command
line.

on the command line syntax? I assume you're talking about using the
