Renaming a server

Hi all,

I have a Windows 2003 server box running SQL 2000 and BizTalk 2006. I need to change the name of the underlying server, could anyone point me in the right direction of what I would need to change in terms of SQL and BizTalk config to make it all sit happily with this?

Kind regards
Taz

rename sql

I need to rename a brand-new build of a Win2003/SQL2k box. I know with
SQL2k that renaming is essentially a snap, and I know how to do it. But my
question is this: should I rename it, or should I; uninstall sql, rename the
box and then reinstall sql? I don't want to have any potential issues in
the future, and I have the time to reinstall if that's the best solution.
Thanks, AndreHi, Andre

Rename A Server

We want to migrate a SQL 7 to SQL2000 (there will be a new box) and then rename the old SQL 7 box and keep it on the network.
Seems like I remember there is a problem when your rename a SQL server.
Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks
ChuckCheck this out (http://www.databasejournal.com/scripts/article.php/1496451)|||...And this is what M$ says about this process:

Q. Can I rename a server after installing SQL Server 2000?

A: Yes, you can rename a server after the installation of SQL Server 2000. When the SQL Server service starts for the first time after the name change, it automatically recognizes the change and resets the computer name. You do not need to run setup again to reset this value. However, you must perform several additional configuration steps. To correct the sysservers system table, you should manually run the following procedures.

For a default instance: sp_dropserver <old_servername>
go
sp_addserver <new_servername> , local
go

For a named instance:sp_dropserver <old_servername\instancename>
go
sp_addserver <new_servername\instancename> , local
go|||Thanks.

I'll try that. It is actually SQL 7. We are upgrading a SQL 7 server to SQL 2000. The SQL 2000 is a new box and we want to keep the SQL 7 server around on the lan for a while.

Thanks again

Chuck

Rename a linked server

I have an app that has some stored procedures running queries across a linked server. In our development environment, the linked database is on a box called 10.xxx.xxx.xx. In the production environment, the linked database will be on a server called something else. What I want to do is have the linked server in the development environment named the same thing as the linked server in the production environment, so that I won't have to change the stored procedures when migrating the project into production.

SQL Server 2005 isn't giving me the option to rename or alias the linked server, though. Is there anyway to do this so that I can have the linked server named the same thing on the two different boxes and not have to change the sp's?

I don't think you can rename linked servers, but you can create them correctly for your needs. Don't select SQL Server, but do select the SQL native client, or just use T-SQL which may make more sense if trying to standardise stuff accross machines anyway

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @.server= 'FRED1' ,@.provider='SQLNCLI' ,@.datasrc='10.1.1.1' ,@.srvproduct = 'SQL'

In future please try and pick a more appropriate forum. This is really SQL Server question issue, not SSIS.

Removing User Right Assignments form SQL-Server Account

Hello everybody,
I'm currently securing a w2k box according to some recommendations
made by a company that audited our server.
Now among their recommendations is to remove the following rights from
the sql-server account. (The SQL Server runs under its own 'user
account' and in mixed mode)
According to them I should remove these permissions:
- Act as part of the Operating System
- Replace a process level token
- Increase quotas
- Log on as batch job
- Log on as service
I've browsed the web and found some documents, however none could
really answer which SQL-Features depend on these services.
Maybe someone in this forum has some experience or helpful urls.
Thanks very much.
the document:
SQL Server 2000 C2 Administrator's and User's Security Guide
at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/sql/maintain/security/sqlc2.asp
somehow mentions that these four services are necessary, but not why.
* Act as part of the operating system.
* Increase quotas.
* Replace a process-level token.
* Log on as a service.Hallo Beat(e) M=FCller,
at first you must NOT REMOVE the right
- Log on as service (The sql-Server does not start anymore!)
second the others you may try but I do not suggest it. Please look at
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/administration/2000/s
ecurity/securingsqlserver.asp
there are useful tipps to securing the sql-Server
- Log on as a batch job (removable depends on your Envoirement - !CHECK! does your sqlserver service use a start batch?)
- the others will be used for internal tuning and interaction - I you REALLY must to remove them try it on your on risk!

Removing text box in exported RTF

Hi, I'm using Crystal report 8, I exported my report to Word doc,
but the words are gettings scrambled and misaligned so I use Rtf which is fine but I noticed every word is enclosed in a text box, it makes it hard to edit the words. How can I remove those boxes? ThanksThat is only pointing the field area
Why do you want to edit the exported data?
